Handmade rings for working Dorset Buttons
Handmade rings ideal for making Dorset Buttons
PLEASE NOTE - STOCK IS VERY LOW SO PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO FIND OUT WHEN TO EXPECT DELIVERY.
These rings are for a delicate looking Dorset Button and when worked look similar to an original Dorset Button (please see image for an example of a worked 10mm and 15mm button). They are similar in size and fineness to the original rings used in the 1800s. The wire size was gaged from a collection of original rings I have in my collection of Dorset Buttons. [email protected]
I have a selection of three sizes - 10, 12 and 15mm - all made from a 0.8mm wire. As these are bespoke rings delivery is not instant. Please contact Henry's Buttons for a delivery date.
Please Note: You a buying the rings only not a completed Dorset Button. These rings are sold in packs of 5 rings per pack.
The Dorset Buttons Industry originated in Shaftesbury in the 1620s, and became major cottage industry throughout Dorset creating employment for many families. By the 1780s 4,000 women and children were employed in the industry. Dorset Buttons were replaced by machine buttons during the first half of the 1800s.
