Online Dorset Button Workshop
The Challenge of the Dorset Button Spiral and Basket Weave DesignSpirals can lead you to a number of different combinations of design. Such as using beads and different coloured threads can all be incorporated into the design.
Both Spirals and Basket Weave rely on working over single and double ‘Lays’ or spokes and to lose count of the combination that you are trying to achieve is easy! But once mastered, the Spiral and Basket Weave designs can be used in a number of ways to achieve a wonderful, complicated effect. This workshop is for those who know how to make a Dorset ‘Cartwheel’ Button and want to take it to the next stage. Materials: Participants are asked to prepare two 30mm or larger rings by casting (blanket stitching) around both rings using firm stitches to ensure the base does not move when Laying. Kits are available and will include two 35mm rings, thread and a size 18 tapestry needle. Please give at least seven working days for delivery or three weeks for delivery if outside the UK. During the workshop, I will aim to: offer a bespoke help - even online adapt the lesson to you assess everybody's needs & expectations The session will start with welcoming you all, introductions, and a short introduction to the history of Dorset Buttons cottage industry. Once you have registered, I will send you your Zoon link with details on how to join the workshop and a worksheet a few days before the date of the workshop.
