Online Dorset Button Workshop
The joy of Birdseyes and Singletons
This workshop will concentrate on the Birdseye and Singleton buttons.
It is thought that Birdseye buttons are one of the earliest of the Dorset Button range together with the High Tops and Dorset Knobs. Singletons were supposedly named after the Dorset family that first made them. Birdseye buttons are made using just fabric and thread. Wire rings were introduced in the 1730s and two further types of buttons were added to the range including Singletons which are made with wire rings, fabric and thread. You will also need a sharp ended large eyed needle, sewing thread and pair of scissors. Items marked with * will be included in the kit During the workshop, I will aim to: offer a bespoke help - even online adapt the lesson to you assess everybody's needs & expectations The session will start with welcoming you all, introductions, and a short introduction to the history of Dorset Buttons cottage industry. Once you have registered, I will send you a worksheet a few days before the workshop. If you require materials all the items with an * will be included in my packs.
