Dorset Button Workshop for beginners Learn a traditional Dorset craft in the lovely woodland setting which inspired the writer Thomas Hardy. This workshop will be run by Anna McDowell (from Henrys Buttons) who will share her creative flare with attendees to create their own traditional Dorset Button, with a modern twist of colour and different threads. Dorset Buttons for Beginners This workshop is ideal for anyone who would like to know how to make a basic Dorset ‘Cartwheel’ Button or refresh their skills. During the half-day session students will be taken through the four stages of making these traditional buttons unique to Dorset and leave with a button they have made themselves. Dorset Button Master Class with Anna McDowell This workshop was requested by experienced buttoners who wanted to test their skills with a new challenge. The workshop will be centred on the Dorset ‘Cartwheel’ Button. Participant will be able to experiment with different yarns and threads including ribbons and lace to explore the textures they have when working a Dorset Button. The use of beads will also be explored. The challenge is to incorporate the minimum of four different yarns to show off their individual properties into the overall design of the finished button. This workshop is for experienced buttoners. Studio Workshop Dorset Button Workshop for beginners This workshop is ideal for those who want to learn the traditional Dorset craft of Dorset Buttony or refresh skills. The workshop will take place in my studio with no more than four participants. This is a half day workshop and lasts for up to three hours. If you are a beginner I have found that it takes a half day to learn how to make a Dorset Button using the most popular design known as the Cartwheel. Venue: Anna’s Studio, Undercliffe Cottage, Donhead St Mary, Shaftesbury, Dorset SP7 9DG Time: 10.00am – 1.00pm Fees and bookings: Workshops for up to and no more than four participants are £45.00 each for a half day and includes all materials, instructions and refreshments together with a complimentary ‘goodies bag’. Embellish a T-shirt bag with a Dorset Button This workshop is aimed at knitters who want to try something different. The day will be spent cutting up t-shirts to make yarn and knitting the yarn into small bags or purses. The afternoon will be spent working a Dorset Button using the T-shirt yarn to embellish the bag and act as a fastener. All materials provided. Please bring a packed lunch, or make your own booking with the Millstream Bistro on 01202 842258.
